2002, the german Alfa 2 litre

In the eyes of many this may look as a rather bland 60s-70s german mid-class car. But those who used the cars back then will be touched by quite different emotions. Your editos drove several of those. Ranging from the early 1600 (the 1602 name came a bit later) , throught the 1802, the 2002, the various Tourings (hatchbacks 'avant la lettre') and finally the very rare twin double Solex 2002 ti (easily mixed up with the tii which had mechanic injection). The very standard 2002 as shwon above was a terrific car. Hoping not to offend the many alfisti around this was german Alfa-Romeo. Very dynamic, very quick, very efficient and yes still very german. Evven this standard 2002 was a Bimmer Bombe in city dress. I reember very well various super swift travels cutting through europe like the wellknown hot knife through butter. Amazing machines. It must have been all cars stemming from the 02 series that inspired marketeers to write words like "Freude am Fahren" and  "The Ultimate driving Machine". Today's Bimmers may look much more aggressive and are a lot quicker. Still in comparison they are ultimately boring and predictable. The 2002 would grab you and could surprise in most interesting ways.  My first rounding of a damp cloverleaf roundabout ended in spinning twice which gave quite another view on the propellor inspired logo....
Let's hope that next week at Interclassics aside pre-war 328s, post-war 6-series and other goodies from Bavaria there is also a good portion of those fabulous 02s. Brilliant cars from Bayern.
