Daimler AG (the parent company of Mercedes-Benz) was not amused when they discovered an imitation fiberglass body of the 300SL Gullwing on the market. The 300SL body is considered a work of art and consequently all body parts are strictly copyrighted. Daimler had the unlawful replica seized by German customs and then destroyed by the Mercedes-Benz used-parts Centre, which is also responsible for scrapping all Mercedes-Benz prototypes from the development units. They dismantled the 300SL and their two presses, each applying over 30 tons of pressure, were no match for the 300SL's fiberglass, scrapping each and every body part into itsy bitsy teeny weenie little pieces!
