The inspired product of a chance 1949 meeting between Nash’s George Mason and Donald Healey, the Nash-Healey of 1951-1954 combined sleek bodywork, a race-proven Healey chassis and a tuned Nash OHV “six.” US sales followed its 1951 Chicago debut. Curvaceous Pinin Farina steel bodywork and performance enhancements for 1952 brought 100-plus mph performance with standard overdrive.
As one of only 162 examples built for the 1953 model year out of total production of 506 units, this Nash-Healey roadster was restored around 20 years ago and remains in excellent condition. This Nash Healey was part of the Academy of Art University Collection for almost two decades where it was fully re-commissioned for use with an engine and steering-box rebuild, a new clutch and fuel-system work. A recent drive confirms smooth shifting and proper engagement of the automatic overdrive unit.
The lovely silver finish is complemented by the nicely settled red leather interior, black canvas top and original side curtains. Complete and correct, the car features proper Hickok seat belts as well as the original radio and bezel. While retaining its period appearance, the radio was rebuilt as an AM/FM receiver with .mp3 capability. The “Le Mans Dual Jetfire” engine retains the original aluminum cylinder head and is fitted with twin side-draft carburetors. Sparingly used but well maintained in recent years, it benefits from extensive mechanical servicing and thorough detailing. It provides a rare opportunity to acquire one of the nicest and most authentic Nash-Healeys extant.
