Vanquish Zagato No. 48 of 99
The relationship between Aston Martin and Carrozzeria Zagato is often viewed through the lens of a long-running creative romance, periodically renewed to produce some of the most distinctive limited-production grand tourers of the modern era. Yet its origins were quite pragmatic, beginning in 1960 when Aston Martin's Competition Department sought to extract further performance from its DB4 GT program. The solution was to enlist Zagato to develop a lighter, more aerodynamic body, establishing a design partnership that would quietly re-emerge over the following decades whenever the two firms set out to create something truly exceptional.
That ethos was carried into the modern era with the Vanquish Zagato family, unveiled to worldwide acclaim at the 2016 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Based on Aston Martin's flagship Vanquish S, the project brought together the company's naturally aspirated V12 grand touring platform with Zagato's disciplined approach to form, executed in carbon fiber and shaped with an emphasis on continuity, surface tension, and sculptural clarity.
Limited to just 99 serialized examples, the Coupe was quickly spoken for following its announcement and was the first and most distilled of the four body styles that would follow. It set the tone for the series with its signature double-bubble roof, wraparound glasshouse, and Zagato detailing integrated within Aston Martin's contemporary design language. Powered by a 580-horsepower V12 paired with the Touchtronic III transmission, the Coupe represented one of the purest expressions of Aston Martin's front-engine, naturally aspirated grand touring era.
Manufactured in September 2017, this 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Coupe, number 48 of 99 produced, was ordered in bespoke Shell Grey over a special Black leather interior upholstered in a design evocative of Zagato's first collaboration with Aston Martin-the DB4 GT. The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report reveals an initial delivery to Miller Motorcars in May of 2018 with a subsequent public sale in Monterey that August. Acquired by Paul Andrews, the Zagato Coupe was lightly used by the collector, and was a perfect fit in a collection that consisted of a D-Type, 300 SL Gullwing, and DB4 GT Lightweight among others. After his passing, the rare Zagato, just one of 99 produced, was again sold in Monterey during Pebble Beach Car Week to the consignor with 435 miles recorded on its odometer.
Today, this Vanquish Zagato Coupe, the only known example finished in Shell Grey, is offered from just its third collector-owner with just 1,722 additional miles in their time with the car. This eminently collectible fusion of British power and poise and Italian design is furnished with its books, battery conditioner,, and a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report.
