The Mk. III Golf GTi marked an important chapter in the evolution of Volkswagen's iconic hot hatch, combining the everyday practicality and solid build quality that made the Golf so successful with refined performance and long-distance comfort. By the end of production in 1998, the Mk. III had matured into a thoroughly accomplished all-rounder, offering effortless usability whilst remaining true to the GTI ethos that had captivated enthusiasts for over two decades.

Finished in attractive Mystic Blue metallic over a beautifully preserved black interior, this late-production example has covered just 35,500 miles from new and is accompanied by an exceptional history file. Originally supplied as a company car, it was purchased by its sole long term user after little more than a year and remained in the same ownership for over two decades before joining The Continental Performance Collection, a carefully curated assemblage of significant European performance cars.

The comprehensive history is a particular highlight, including the original dealer book pack, service book containing 25 service stamps, the original purchase invoice, numerous maintenance invoices, a complete run of historic MoT certificates, Volkswagen Certificate of Conformity, Volkswagen Heritage letter, original tax discs and both sets of keys. Remarkably, the car was serviced annually for over 20 consecutive years, with the majority of this work carried out by the same diligent independent garage, reflecting the exceptional level of care it has received throughout its life.

Today, unmodified, low-mileage Mk. III GTis have become increasingly difficult to find, with many having succumbed to corrosion, modification or neglect. This remarkably original and meticulously maintained example represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest surviving examples of Volkswagen's often overlooked modern classic, offered from an excellent private performance car collection.
