2004 Ferrari 360 Spider | The Quail Auction 2026
Chassis No. ZFFYT53A940137392
When Ferrari transformed the 360 Modena into the 360 Spider, it created not simply an open version of the berlinetta, but one of Maranello's great sensory V8 road cars of the early 2000s. Stowing the roof, Road & Track magazine noted, "enhances the sensation of speed," but "by far the biggest plus is the sound of the engine, angrier now without the barrier of cloth and foam"-a 3.6-liter V8 that "at large throttle openings flat-out shrieks" toward its 8,500-rpm redline.
Beneath the skin, the Spider shared the Berlinetta's aluminum spaceframe, double-wishbone suspension, Brembo brakes, and naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V8 producing 400 horsepower, its reinforced structure adding only around 130 pounds. Most examples were delivered with Ferrari's paddle-shifted F1 gearbox, leaving the six-speed manual a comparatively small share of production. Among the most sought-after configurations of the model, the gated six-speed Spider represents one of Ferrari's final open, analog V8 road cars, pairing the 400-horsepower engine with the open shift gate that defines the driving experience of Ferrari's modern analog era.
This 2004 Spider, chassis number 137392, was specified new with the desirable six-speed manual and a timeless Rosso Corsa over Beige leather specification and a deep list of options. It rides on 19-inch Challenge-style wheels with Rosso-painted calipers visible behind the spokes, and wears front and rear Challenge grilles. Scuderia Ferrari fender shields and a black power convertible top complete the exterior presentation. The lustrous Rosso Corsa finish presents with strong gloss and uniform quality, complemented by consistent panel fit and correct factory detailing. Inside, the Beige leather interior remains well preserved, highlighted by Daytona-style seats with Nero inserts, while the gated shifter anchors the cockpit with the hallmark aluminum open gate and polished shift knob.
A clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report traces the car's early history through California, New York, and Ohio before its return to California. The car was acquired by the current caretaker in 2016 from a private collection following a focused search for a highly specified manual-transmission example. Since acquisition, it has been sparingly driven, carefully stored, and consistently maintained for concours-level presentation.
Servicing has been carried out by recognized Ferrari specialists throughout and is extensively documented. During its Ohio ownership, the car was maintained by NJB Automotive of Westerville, with invoices on file including a major belt service in 2010. Ferrari of Newport Beach completed a major service in July 2016 at 13,871 miles, again including the timing belts, followed by an oil service at Ferrari Technologies in August 2018. In June 2022 at 18,053 miles, Mark Douglas Motorworks of Mission Viejo carried out an extensive major service, replacing the timing belts, tensioner bearings, accessory belts, cam seals, and spark plugs alongside an oil and brake-fluid service. Most recently, in June 2025 at 19,885 miles, Ferrari Maserati Service (FMS) of Van Nuys performed a further major belt service together with a complete alternator and engine wiring-harness renewal, A/C condenser, oil-pressure sender, and battery, at a cost exceeding $13,000. A fresh set of Pirelli P Zero tires was fitted that same month, and the convertible top was serviced in February 2026 with its second-bow tension straps replaced. The car was smog certified in California in June 2026.
Highly specified and presented in collector-grade condition, this 360 Spider now shows just 20,223 carefully maintained miles and remains completely original save for the tasteful addition of a Tubi exhaust. Its impressive presentation has been duly rewarded on the concours field, where the car has earned no less than three Platinum honors from the Ferrari Club of America Southwest Region-beginning with a Platinum Award at the 2023 San Marino Motor Classic, followed by a Platinum Award at the FCA Southwest Region's 30th Anniversary Concorso in 2024, and culminating in the Coppa di Platino at the Southwest Region's Concorso Ferrari in 2026.
The Ferrari 360 Spider continues to see rising collector appreciation as one of the final analog V8 Ferraris of its era. Manual-equipped examples with low mileage, continuous specialist servicing, and repeated FCA concours recognition are increasingly limited. Accompanied by its owner's books in their leather pouch, factory tool kit, Ferrari car cover, tire inflator, service records, and three FCA Platinum concours trophies, chassis 137392 represents a true driver's Ferrari ready to be shown, enjoyed, and driven with equal confidence.
