A Hotchkiss Chapron mystery

This rare and arguably ugly car appeared recently at a fair after long term storage. Nobody (even the owner) knew about its origins. The little Hotchkiss plate in the engine bay says "Type GS 686349"  and the body appears to be a Vanguard design from the 1950s. The car seems to have been repainted (not very well) many years ago and all the interior plus upholstery rotten and unrestored, likewise the mechanics as.
A more important question: on the left side there is a "Henri Chapron" badge, however it´s not a typical Chapron body and after asking in specialised forums about Hotchkiss nobody knows about this car... so is it an original Chapron unknown prototype or is a "home made" bodywork with later added badge? Or an original bodywork with the front end modified?
You can see another "ugly" designs from Chapron in those years, the Peugeot 403 Coupé, which has some similarities with the Hotchkiss. Finally... after the fair the car has disappeared again, to add more mystery to the history.
