Who doesn’t know the DeLorean. It might not be a vintage car but it is a real iconic car. Well known for its stainless steel skin, gullwing doors and of course as the star of the movie Back to the Future.
The company went bankrupt in 1982 but there has been a change in regulation which means that DeLorean Motor Company can manufacture the DeLorean DMC-12 again in low volume.
Since 1987 the factory is active again with restoring, both cars from their own inventory and cars from others. But now they grab the chance to become a real car manufacturer again. Of all places in a town called Humble in Texas.
There are some conditions to build this legendary car again. One of those is complying with the emission standards from the us Clean Air Act. So they need to make use of a modern engine like one from Ford or General Motors. Except for that, they have enough parts in stock (New Old Stock or replica parts?) to build 300 post production replicas according to the CEO Stephen Wynn. DMC hope to start selling the first cars in 2017.
Next question is, which iconic youngtimers would you like to see remanufactured again? After among other things the Jaguar E-type , Datsun 260 Z, Bentley racers and now the DeLorean. Let us know your thoughts!
