A seemingly everyday snapshot of a family posing with their new early fifties Opel Kadett Cabriolet. Upon closer inspection we see the road covered with snow sludge. Last snow of the season or first? Not the best circumstances to test your new car on skinny diagonal tyres. This was way before the marketing hype of special winter shoes for the car. That snow tyres can be very useful we found out last week during a trip to Sweden. We thought early November, what can happen? Well... we were near the worst snow the meteorologists had accounted for since the beginning of Swedish weather forecasts. Driving on country roads with iced snow on well used all season tyres/tires was - despite the great views - no fun. We decided on the spot to get new snowtires. According to the most helpful Swedish specialist Valla Däck we did the best buy with Goodyears and so we did. Travelling home we felt a lot safer. And we learned something new. In these Scandinavian countries snowtires are obligatory for the trailer as well. But sorry, here the wellknown Dutch attitude to save a few Euros did win. Yet we arrived home safely after another 100 miles of winter landscapes. Be prepared!
