See the heart of Europe on the 2024 Target Bavaria Rally

Two things everybody loves are historic cars and beautiful landscapes, so it seems one of the best things anyone can do in life is to combine the two and head out for a drive on some of the world's most scenic roads in the company of other like-minded car enthusiasts. As it happens, that's exactly what you can do in the 2024 Target Bavaria Rally, which runs from May 25th to 31st and takes drivers through the countryside and mountains of Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany.

The route will start in Rijeka, the Croatian city famous for its outstanding historic architecture and idyllic location at the shore of the glistening Adriatic Sea. Over the course of more than 900 miles, the rally will then wind its way through the serene and varied landscapes of Slovenia and Austria, taking in the Karawanken Mountains and the foothills of the Alps, before ultimately reaching Bavaria. There will be stops at several fascinating towns and landmarks, such as Salzburg, with its cobbled streets, Baroque cathedral, hilltop fortress, Mozart connections and more. Drivers will see the eerie Postojna Cave, which might have served as the palace for an elf king in some Grimm fairy tale, and Admont Abbey, famed for its unsurpassed monastic library and highly decorative Baroque interior. The final destination will be Munich, another historic city with magnificent churches and palaces and gardens, although perhaps it is best-known among car enthusiasts for being the home of BMW and there is, of course, a BMW Museum, strikingly situated within a complex of futuristic 1970s buildings.

The rally is competitive, but it isn't necessarily about speed. Different cars and different temperaments are allowed for by the provision of two distinct classes. In the Regularity class, for vehicles produced up to 1984, participants are rewarded for driving with consistency and precision, while in the Competition class, for vehicles produced up to 1981, there will be stages where participants are challenged to get from A to B in the quickest time. These will be enabled by twelve special stages on closed sections of road and at purpose-built race tracks, such as the Grobnik Circuit in Croatia and the old Österreichring in Austria. There is also a Special Guest class intended for vehicles deemed to be of an outstanding character or quality, irrespective of age or speed.

If you take the competitive part seriously, you will no doubt desire a good night's sleep at the end of each day's driving, and you should certainly get one. Participants will stay in the best luxury hôtels and enjoy gourmet dining. In short, it should contain everything you need to really enjoy a week of driving.

As a spring getaway, what could possibly be better? Spaces will be limited, so register your interest now. Visit www.target-bavaria.com for more information and for entry forms.
