PostWarClassic of the week: 1957 Jaguar XK140 Drop Head Coupe
Although you might think different after reading yesterday's feature about the ode to ‘
La Grandezza della Lancia’, it is not only Lancia that will be present during the InterClassics show in Maastricht the next couple of days. No no, there will also be some other cars that are very exciting.
One of the other ‘European’ cars will be at the PostWarClassic.com stand: the well-known and stunning Jaguar XK140. The car was in a private collection for more than 20 years and the owner has now decided to part with it. When they asked us to present it at our stand, we were very enthusiastic as it is a wonderful example.
Jaguar XK140:
The XK140 was the successor of the very successful and immense popular XK120, which it replaced in September 1954. Just as the XK120, the XK140 turned out to be a huge commercial success.
The XK140 retained the same lines as the XK120 but there were many improvements to the car hidden underneath. The engine was more powerful from standard, steering was improved by a new rack and pinion system, tighter handling and a smoother rider were achieved by the old leaver arm dampers being replaced by telescopic shock absorbers and a big advantage for taller drivers was made by moving the engine forward. The roofline of the XK140 was also lengthened to allow room for two tiny rear seats and the screen was moved forward.
The XK140 was again available in three body styles; the Open Two Seater (OTS), the Drop Head Coupé (DHC) and the Fixed Head Coupé (FHC).
