His name already came up last week… Carroll Shelby. Started his career as a racing driver, but today better known for the impressive automobiles he built. His first project was to fit a Ford V8 into the AC Bristol, thus creating the "Cobra”. After this hairy sports car came a long line of popular and extremely successful street and race vehicles bearing the names Daytona Coupe, GT40, GT350 and GT500 Mustangs and the Chrysler Omni GLHS. Starting on February 11th, the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum will feature a special exhibition: Shelby: A Retrospective. Several cars will represent Shelby’s career, including the AC Bristols fitted with Ford's 260 and 289 cubic inch V8s and of course the Shelby GT350 and GT500 Mustangs that from 1965 until 1970 were produced either in his shop or by Ford under licensed contract.
