Diplomatic Friday Lady

Not too long ago we showed you a Friday Lady with a Porsche of which we knew not very much (click here). We were overwhelmed by your knowledge, as you not only identified the lady as Norwegian world champion ice dancer and actress Sonja Henie, but also pinned the Porsche down to 1953 due to it not having a split screen, which we thought it had. You even knew it survived to that day.

The car intriguingly wore a round number plate of which we knew not much either (what do we know, you may wonder yourselves…). Again you learned us that this is a German export plate and in this case one for Hamburg. These plates were supposedly valid for three months, after which the car must have left the country. Reader B.J. van Spaendonck: “During these three months the car was exempt from German taxes but not from mandatory third party liability insurance. Thes plates were replaced in 1988 with rectangular plates with a red square on the left where the end date of its validity was stamped.”

Well, fans, we found a new one in the files. And it’s a real gem with a lovely fur wearing lady. Not only is the car wearing an export plate – it appears to have been fitted to a diplomatic car hence the CD plate on top of it. A German ambassador returning to his home country and bringing his piece of German engineering with him?

Or perhaps his wife’s car? The lady certainly suits the diplomatic looks…  We also wondered what the car on the left could be..?

The round number plate was known as a "Zoll" plate. Hence the Z of course. An export plate.
