Empathy for patina

Have a good look at the picture above. What is it that strikes you? Yes, that’s a nice looking XK150 in the not too standard colours of Cotswolds Blue over Tartan Red. Did we hear somebody saying blue paint over red leather is improbable?

Now look closer. Click on the image to see it bigger if you like. It’s the blue that we are after here. This 1958 car is said to have never been restored and, what’s more, is still largely in its original paint. ‘Unique’ definitely is a term overly used to describe a car that’s for sale, but the condition of this one may well be called so. The seller states: “This Jaguar XK150 is unique in terms of condition. Finding a car in such a beautiful original condition is very rare and we were immediately charmed by this incredibly beautiful patinated car.”

It is pretty amazing for a 60 year old vehicle never to have been repainted and it says something about the tender loving care that has been given to this vehicle, even though the history of this car is only partly documented. We haven’t seen it up close ourselves, but can just spot the little touch-up paint spots on the front wing. This is an oily rag car like not too many others. It’s up for sale here.
