You may wonder why we show you this quiet winterday Fiat photo. Well this photo by Marcus Urdnot gave us back strong and vivid memories of our first car: a 200 Euro 1968 Fiat 500, however not the 'Lusso' (luxury) version as shown here. Ours was the basic one without the chrome bumper overriders, without the luxury stitching of the seats. Without the luxury steering wheel. And without the luxury speedo... but the standard round one.
Technically there were no differences whatsoever. With the wheather as depicted here - a thin blanket of fresh snow - it was better than a Ferrari in the narrow cobble stone streets where we used to drive it. Going round and sideways, funtailing for hours. Until that one slightly miscalculated corner when we hit with 10 mph the curbstone sideways with both right wheels at the same time. It gives a bang you hardly can imagine and we thought the car was a total loss. Yet nothing was wrong. Only our damaged self confidence had a scratch. 30 seconds later we drove off again with the happy 'twin-air' rasping voice behind us.
