Imagine being a young racing driver, not really winning, but "promising". Then you must have a look at Bonhams auction on December 3. Remember what happened to young racing driver Tony Brooks in 1955. He got a phone call: "Would you like to drive the Connaught F1 in the Syracuse GP?" He did and flew to Sicily, which was quite a trial in those days. Tony started from the front row, had to drive carefully because the Connaught wasn't really tested, but then took off and managed to lap every other driver twice, except Luigi Musso in his Maserati. It was the first post-war GP win for a British driver and British car. Read the full story of his race at GrandPrixHistory. Tony Brooks then drove a Type B1 Connaught, but now Bonhams offers a similar 'Syracuse' Connaught Type B10. It's a recreation, fitted with the original nose that was used in the Monaco GP. The Alta engine is also the original one used in the Syracuse GP and the rest of the racer has been manufactured with at least ninety percent original Connaught parts, including the instruments from a Type B3. We suspect this Connaught could be a real contender at historic races.
