We’ve noticed before that luxury, sports, coachbuilt and exotic cars formerly owned by celebrities have a strange habit of totally disappearing off the radar, so when we typed in the registration numbers of this cool duo here we weren’t surprised to learn that the internet doesn’t know a thing about them. SBU 55G on the left is a Jensen Interceptor in the most desirable FF specification; MKX 140H on the right is an equally cool Aston Martin DB6.
The chaps sitting on their wings are Dave Walker and John McVie of rock band Fleetwood Mac, and the picture was taken circa 1972 by an unknown photographer in what looks to be a London mews. The website Rockstars Cars, run by Kieron Maughan, got in touch with Walker in 2019 and wrote ‘He went quite misty-eyed about his old Jensen.’ According to Maughan, the FF had seen a few changes of colour since it was new in 1968 or ’69: ‘Originally Crystal Blue, the car was white when Dave bought the car in the early 1970s, but after an accident he had the car repaired and repainted black with a red coach line.’
Walker has no idea what happened to the cars but remembered that both of them were shipped to the USA when Fleetwood Mac relocated over there. The last trace of the Jensen dates back to 1998 when it was advertised for sale in California needing restoration. The DB6 is shrouded in a similar mystery. Do you know more about it?
Walker and McVie aren’t Fleetwood Mac’s only car enthusiasts. Drummer and co-founder Mick Fleetwood owns an eclectic collection of classic four-wheelers, several of them expensive sports cars, although his favourite is a humble Austin Seven that he’s owned since he saw it parked in the street at the age of 20: “I wrote a note and left it on the little car’s windscreen, saying: ‘I’m in love with your car. If it ever needs a good home please call me.’” That happened after two years and Fleetwood still owns the car, now at his home on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

The Aston Martin was just recently sold by Gullwing Motors in New York, to be relocated to Ontario for restoration. The car has substantial damage to the front end but the license plate is clearly visible.
