Found and lost? Porsche 597 Jagdwagen

Tired of all the thousands of 'rare' and 'super-rare' 911s which turn up nowadays? Yet here's á real odd bird, probably only know from books to you. Designed in the 1950s for the German Army, the Porsche 597 was an interesting project mixing 4X4 transmission and 356 engine which was never mass produced due to high fabrication costs. Probably no more than 70 units were assembled (the number varies depending on the source as usual), and 49 of them for the civilian market. The vast majority remained in Germany -some of them today in museums- and some others went to Italy or the USA... but no one expected to find one in Spain, where in the 1950s the government restricted heavily the import of foreign vehicles.

The 957 pictured here was a total and true surprise: It was supposedly used in northern Spain for years as daily SUV, and the last few years it was hiding in an obscure garage surrounded by unrestored pre-war cars and motorcycles (photo 2). Only a few months ago the car was discovered by a collector... who quickly sold it to a german specialist. Now the car is supposed to reside in Germany, where most likely a careful restoration job will be carried out. As you can see in the detail pictures, the Porsche is in reasonably sound original condition, with all its original components (dashboard, engine, etc) still in place.. . but does anybody else know about the actual whereabouts of this 597?
