The illustrious but forgotten Veritas brand will make many hearts beat faster, with its great but often overlooked influence in post-war motor racing. Based on the six-cylinder engine of the BMW 328, Veritas's cars raced successfully but enjoyed little commercial success.
The Dutch Veritas collectors of the Jans family showed their rusty Veritas Saturn Coupé with Spohn bodywork in 2016 at the Concours Het Loo but, after years of work, it was shown publicly for the first time since restoration at the International Concours d'Elegance Soestdijk in August.
The Saturn was originally intended as a luxury car to be sold in large numbers. It was also the first Veritas with a Heinkel engine. This was not continued and as far as we know this is the only one in existence. It was taken back to its homeland by an American serviceman after his service and returned to Germany in 1996 before arriving in the Netherlands in 2016 and being exhibited in its rusty state at Concours d'Elegance Het Loo.
The restoration began with sandblasting what was left before rebuilding the body with many new parts. Because the body was largely intact, this could be done easily. Rebuilding the mechanical parts was quite a challenge, but in the end, with the help of several machine operations and a lot of time, all the work was completed.
A report on the restoration with video footage can be found here.
It is really worth to see that small film on You Tube.
Congratulations with this rare and finished Veritas
