Perhaps the smallest car ever produced was the Peel 50. It was made on the Isle of Man from 1962 until 1965 but wasn’t sold in great numbers. Recently it became famous again when Jeremy Clarkson of the popular TV-program Top Gear drove it (YouTube). Maybe that revival brought on the idea by several bright young man to revive the marque and start re-manufacturing it. But it will not be the same as the 1960s model, for instance the tiny DKW 49cc fan-cooled engine will be replaced by a modern electric motor. Will today’s demand for ‘green’ cars warrant such a revival? If you ask us we think some things are best forgotten and the Peel is one of them. (photo courtesy Peel Engineering)
