"History is bunk" (Henry Ford)

“History is bunk” is a famous quote from Henry Ford, who expressed no interest in his company’s history *). Fortunately for us other companies think different. Back in 1936 Mercedes-Benz decided to start collecting everything from their past and keeping all material that was to follow in their archives. By today they have more than fifteen kilometers of archive material which is one of the largest business archives anywhere in Europe and undoubtedly the most complete in the automotive industry. A great deal of information is stored in a relatively small space where the mobile shelving system allows the archive space to be used to the full. Negatives of historical photos have been put on microcopies so that important information can be accessed rapidly without damaging the sensitive originals. In addition to written documentation and photographs, the archive also collected other media from the outset. This photo shows the film archive. We´ll promise to make good use of it by regularly showing you some material from the archive.
