Don't laugh! These two cars are closer than you may think. The 1955 Lincoln Indianapolis is a study by the same Carrozeria Boano who built the Ferrari, check Conceptcars. And yes, the roofline and rearwindow treatment is very similar. The Lincoln must have been a sensation at the 1955 motorshow of Turin, Italy. Aside that it is arguably the most extravagant Lincoln ever conceived. It is one of the leading cars featured for the 21 November auction that RM organises in cooperation with art auctioneer Sotheby's at the opening of the X-mas shopping season. An interesting new venue aimed at the top end of the market with only a handfull of automotive top design jewels. Will be interesting to see what buyers will do. Will the wives of big time collectors allow their husbands to indulge in this kind extravaganza three weeks before Christmas? Or will a well to do collector buy the car as a gift for his young bride to make a colourfull entry at Amelia Island in spring? While the 200HP V8 power unit cannot match the 12 cylinder Lampredi unit of the Ferrari in performance, yet the Lincoln will win easily in far-out looks. Too farout for you, there is more low profile high end material in this intersting sale: 21 November, The Art of the Automobile, New York City.
