Jean Todt’s Miura is a ringer

We’re happy to award everyone his or hers public moment of fame, so why not grant Lamborghini Polo Storico and Jean Todt theirs? Last weekend proved to be a PR moment par excellence for the FIA president and Lamborghini’s historical division.

But as a matter of fact the duo had made arrangements some 13 months earlier, when Todt left his Lamborghini Miura with the company. The car, a yellow Miura S originally, dates back to 1972 when it was sold through dealer Bossetti Cagliari. It was rebuilt to SV-spec after it had been crashed earlier in its life. Or perhaps it wasn’t. According to Lamborghini the car’s chassis number was re-used for a Super Veloce-spec’d car. ‘Common practice in those days’, even alone if it was ‘to protect the customer from the extremely high import taxes’, or so the company hastens to add. Bolt statements. Some say this practice stinks. Some say that makes it a ringer. We’re not sure.

Second owner (or first, you tell us…) became a Mr. Mecin of South Africa, who got delivery of the car in a red with gold colour with a black interior. And that's how it's finished now all those years later. Lamborghini Polo Storico unveiled the freshly (and beautifully, we must admit) restored car on the Retromobile show last weekend on their display. Next to it a 350 GT that is about to undergo a similar treatment. We haven't been able to check its chassis number though.

“I’ve had a passion for beautiful cars from a very young age. The Miura SV was a dream car to me. I even had a scale model. Now, many years later, I feel very blessed to own a real one,” said Jean Todt. But is it..?
