Just after WW II Jowett introduced an all new designed saloon, the Javelin. It was a slow starter on the British market, but overseas the Javelin became a very popular automobile which did well in rallies and races. These achievements led to a sports car version, the Jupiter, introduced in 1950 (drivebackintime.com). Although the Jupiter also was successful, Jowett stopped production of the Javelin in 1953 and Jupiter production ended in 1954. However, two Jupiter chassis were retained in the factory and these weren’t bodied until 1960 when Maurice Gomm of Lola fame designed a nice looking fastback coupe for them. In 1964 one of these two crashed and was re bodied as roadster, but the other one is still with us and will be auctioned tomorrow, March 9th, by Herefordshire Vintage Auctions.
