Meet the dealer: Ottavio Luzzago

Brescia in Italy has prominent motoring connections as the home of the famous Mille Miglia as well as of classic car dealer Luzzago 1975 Srl. We visited Luzago's impressive showroom last May and met Ottavio, the 35-year-old driving force behind this family-owned business.

Besides Ottavio, his brother Nicola (33) and father Valerio (78) are also active in running the business, which is located at a large old factory on the outskirts of Brescia. The building was originally a textile factory and later used for storage of IBM computers before the smell of fuel and the sound of roaring engines came to inhabit the concrete walls in 1990. 

Valerio Luzzago started his collecting hobby in 1968 with a 1951 MG TD, which is still on display in the showroom today, although it's certainly not for sale. He pursued his passion ever more closely until, in 1975, he was able to go into business with his brother, trading classic cars and bikes. The business grew and grew and, eventually, the brothers branched out into their own separate dealerships.

In 2010, Valerio’s sons joined the business, while they had around 60 cars in stock. The energy and ambition of the younger Luzzagos led to an increase in activity, and Luzzago grew busier and busier still. Nowadays, they sell many cars a year, with an average of 230 in stock at any one time, of which they own 80 per cent themselves. In addition, they have two workshops with six mechanics employed. The smaller workshop is at their showroom for maintenance of their cars, and the other one is for large-scale restorations. 

The company has been through different stages, with investors getting involved with it in the past, but today it is wholly back in the hands of the family, and whoever meets Ottavio will know immediately that he's got everything firmly under control. With great passion and enthusiasm for cars, he's proud to be continuing his family's story as well as steering their business.
