Mille Miglia 2020 - Day 1

Thursday 22 October - Day 1 - Mille Miglia 2020

14:00 Start of the race! Departure from Viale Venezia in Brescia.

22:00 Arrival of the first car in Cervia – Milano Marittima.

The Mille Miglia is an incredible event and has truly turned into a money-making machine. Even our reporter had to pay for the roadbook...

The 410 lucky participants with eligible cars and the few hundred with modern so-called supercars (no idea what they are doing in a rally for classic cars... ) who got an entry position for May but were rescheduled for the end of October. Business as usual, the show must go on and the money must roll at €10.000 an entry or more if you want to feel like a VIP.

At least 55 crews have chosen not to show up in a pandemic affected world. Our reporter is slightly baffled by this mass event. There are so many events with either a more sporty or more social character, that uncover the loveliest places in Italy.

The 1600 km procession is well organized. Each intersection is guarded by the police and for every so many cars there is a pace car limiting the speed.

This is not a normal Mille Miglia. There are no stops and podia in the many city centres which the rally goes trough. This being October, the days are much shorter and ... the nights will be cold and dark. Almost like The 100 Miles of Amsterdam...
