Mink for safety


Oh yes, we’ve seen some cheeky Aston Martin girls before (even Aston is desperate for some media attention every now and then). But this one was new to us. The picture was seen at Bonham’s Aston Martin sale, last week where it made £125 (in a lot of three). The car in question is a DB4 Convertible on display at the Motor Show, probably somewhere in the early 1960s. The girl is model Jeanette Harding, seen here some years later in your typical late sixties’ knitwear.

But the intriguing thing about it is the actual subject of this PR photograph: the car’s safety harnesses. Still not all too common at the time; these particular belts were covered in ‘Masco’ mink. Not so sure what today’s opinion would be about them, but Jeanette certainly seemed to like them. But then, mink wasn’t as much debated as until the mid-1970s when even dame Shirley Bassey was keen to demonstrate it. In an Aston Martin…
