New Government kills the hobby in Holland.

A new goverment was quickly formed after recent elections. However the social-liberal coalition has  the grim task to cut some 15 billion Euros in government spendings. The result wills be felt in all layers and sections of Dutch society.  And yes the classic car hobby will be a victim as well. Over 200,000 actively used classic cars maintain the attractive automotive landscape in The Netherlands. The people  and companies and money invested and going round is an industry that is far bigger than you can expect form a country this small. One of the important motivators to keep classic cars going is the fact there has been a friendly tax climate for cars older than 25 years. The fierce roadtaxes in Holland did not apply to antique cars of 25 years and older. Monday has been deciced to end this taxwaver and this will obviously severly endanger the hobby and all cultural and business activity involved. It may be clear the last word is not yet been said in this matter. (photo Rutger Booy)
