Pre-war & post-war Via Flaminia organiser Bart Kleyn didn't like it to be photographed with his fine Flaminia at the end of a string. But we all have our days when "the shit hits the fan". Yesterday was one of those days for Bart. He picked up his Lancia Flaminia after a damage repair which took all winter due to lack of replacement parts and a necessary reconstruction of the tail end of his car. The car looks brilliant again and the weather was fine so he took off with a big grin. Yet no less than 20 minutes later his car came to a total stop along a Dutch highway. Carb? Ignition? Starter motor would not work and seemed blocked. Total engine disaster? Luckily the engine was not stuck. And after carefull examination the local "AA" found that a sloppy job by earlier restorers had caused a lack of mass connection to the subframe. When trying to restart the engien the bowden cable which masters the three Weber's was near to a meltdown! A total burn out of the car could have been very near. So good news in the end. Big and dramatic issues were prevented by the early warnings of the car. Apparently the Flaminia likes Bart. But believe us, it will take some time before he likes the Flaminia again.
