Post-war design with pre-war antics: Tornado Typhoon (UPDATE: not pre-war)

After WW II a whole new industry developed building Component Cars, as they were then called. Based on a pre-war chassis, a new body was constructed and the lot was sold as a d-i-y kit-car. One such car is the Tornado made between 1958 and 1964 by Bill Woodhouse, who sold some 400 of them. The one shown here is a Tornado Typhoon SWB owned by Bert Tressel who is very busy restoring it. The coupe is powered by a side-valve 1172cc Ford 10 engine. Seating looks very cramped to us, nevertheless Bill Woodhouse, the designer, went on a European honeymoon tour with this type in 1957. Must have been quite a trip!

Update by owner Bert Tressel: The chassis is certainly not pre-war. On the contrary: Lotus, TVR, Tornado, Rochdale, Buckler... they were far ahead of the industry with their specially designed chassis with superlight bodies (first aluminium and later polyester).
