Tony Press writes: "I haven't seen any mention of the great Australian event- the 60th Anniversary Redex Trial Re Run." Sorry missing out such a great event. But you must understand that we are highly dependable of what's going on from You, our esteemed visitor! So as soon as we heard we went into it and learned about Redex, the first round Australia reliability trial of 1953, won by Ken Tubman & John Marshall in a Peugeot 203. See The Route, covering over 10,000 km (6000 miles) not the typical weekend trip, but a horenduous motoring adventure for the experienced driver. Take into account that the original trip was using the most 'testing' routes of the outback. Not only dry stony tracks yet also a wild river crossing, literally flushing out a number of cars, had to be overcome...! Due to a miscalculation of the organisers the event changed rapidly into an outright - outback roadrace, which was far too much for many. Engines died, springs broke, chassis were ripped apart. Not so with the feeble engined ultra-sturdy Peugeot; all it suffered from was a blocked fuel filter, four flat tires and an unhappy encounter with a pig crossing the road. For obvious reasons this year's 60th Anniversary reenactment is crowded by 203's, 403 and 404. But along the way a variety of typically french (see DS Pickup and Kegresse project) and other collections were visited. Not mention this unidentified remains. Yesterday they finished in Sidney. Probably all ready to savour a sixpack. Read the full amazing history at The Redex Trials. So in short, when you are aware of an important event not mentioned here. Be sure to send a heads up!
