Samos sad Mayflower revisited + 286 more classic wrecks on the island!

Reader Rolf dropped us a line last week, when he stumbled across a familiar photo on this Samos feature. He wrote: “This Mayflower has now reached a far state of decomposition. We’ve been to the isle of Samos for some 25 times now and you can’t miss this particular car when coming from Pythagorion and go towards Samos city. After having been parked on the left side of the road, it was all of a sudden moved to the other side a couple of years ago. It also appears that parts were borrowed regularly as it is now fenced in. I also remember vividly when we were at the airport one day to fly off to the island again where we bought some magazines to kill the waiting time, only to find this very Triumph on the front cover of one!"

"Another mystery car (for me at least) is this white car that I found also on the island not far from Kokkari (the signature side openings give us an idea but leave it to you, reader!). We also stumbled upon a mobile concrete mixer from Belgium (!) and still see many three-wheelers, sometimes with beautiful mascottes on their bonnets. Best yet was a classic car rally that passed us some years ago, the calvacade of cars was hopping from one island to the next… Unfortunately the majority of scrap cars have been cleared – one time the big parking place in Samos city was full of them!" Thanks for that, Rolf. Meanwhile, we found this webpage, dedicated to wrecked cars on the isle of Samas, including a map and photographs of all 287 of them! The Mayflower is there once again, as are several cement mixers, although we didn’t see Rolf’s other spots.
