Pegaso show stoppers at Amelia Island Concours 2016.

Featured marque at last weekend's Amelia Island Concours was the short lived Spanish supercar make Pegaso. Within the line up of ultra rare Pegasos two cars were even more spectacular than others. Best of show sportscar at Amelia Island was the bright orange Pegaso with red(!) wall tires(click the photo on the right): the 1952 Z102 Cupola sports coupe.  We learned that not one but possibly two of these cars one have existed, check here.  When you scroll down at motor life.blog you will find a nice set of period photos of La Cupola.

In a way we like even better - well you know our preferences -  the spectacular 1952 Z-102 Coupe Berlinetta Prototype by Saoutchik, also from 1951. In its heydays it may have looked like this.  Not as spectacular in terms of design as la Cupola, but yes in terms of condition. A supercar in 'rat look' is a rare sight at a concours. 'El Cupola' never went as far down the ladder as the Saoutchik. But now that it is here one will start wondering what will happen with the car in the near future. First of all the owner will need to find an engine (it's missing). The owner claims that he found enough original parts to re-assemble a full engine. Next question is of course what will happen with the body. Will the owner go all the way to show what is possible with today's knowledge of preservation?
Or will the car enjoy the full 'car wash' and get a '100  dollar haircut'. It would come out impressive of course, but it would be a shame at the same time. A tin with correct paint and a few perfect hides to do the interior are less hard to find than the livery of history. Very few have the courage to maintain an icon remembering of the time that nobody cared about maintaining a supercar like this.
     Future will learn.
