SoCal: Post-War Art & Design

We mostly feature the motorcar auctions by Bonhams, but when we see a great print like this, we report that too! Made in 1966 by Edward Ruscha, it’s called ‘Standard Station’. Set in the bright hues of red, orange and blue, Ruscha’s distinct technique can be seen throughout the work in the bold use of color, dramatic angles and textual, flat Pop Art style. This image will be part of a series of events, previews and auctions at Bonhams & Butterfields Los Angeles. Held from October 13-16, the event is to be a celebration of the influence of Post-War Art & Design in Southern California. Titled SoCal: Post-War Art & Design, it will also feature a panel discussion dedicated to California art, artists and culture, including artist Larry Bell and moderated by writer/curator Kristine McKenna. Festivities will conclude on October 16th with an auction of 20th Century Decorative Arts.
