Not counting NSU, Mazda is the only manufacturer that was quite successful with the production of the rotary engine. Shown here is a Mazda 110 S Cosmo, introduced in the mid-sixties and was powered by a two-rotor engine. These first series produced about 110 hp, which explains the 110 badge, but later series like the 1968 model shown here sported the more powerful 128 hp engine. Next to the Cosmo stands an RX-3 (click), the Cosmo’s bigger brother made in the 1970s. Being real collectable cars these Mazda’s are exhibited at the next Retro Classics in Stuttgart, where Hall 5 will be fully dedicated to these so-called ‘youngtimers’. By the way, if you go to Stuttgart, be sure to drive by your own classic car, as there will be free parking space for cars at least thirty years old.
