Austin-Healey Sprites and MG Midgets from all over Europe and Japan made it to the Zandvoort track in The Netherlands last weekend to celebrate the 60th birthday for ‘Spridgets’ all over the world. As you will undoubtedly know there have been many Spridget racers with special bodies by companies such as WSM, Speedwell, Sebring, Lenham and Ashley and the line up at Zandvoort was rather impressive with plenty of these. Apart from The Netherlands and the UK, entrants came from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Japan.
Organizer Pieter Bakker (above in car No.51) told me it was a lovely meet, with the Japanese even being so enthusiastic that they told him to come back the next year and bring their friends, too! This promises something as Japan caters for a great number of Spridget Specials. I also asked Pieter if there was an overall winner of the race weekend who should be mentioned. His reply: “We do not work with winners anymore, as it is indicating there are losers on the other side, too. This is just a sporty weekend for everyone involved on a nice racing track with gorgeous cars and great people in the first place!” Well done. Feel for joining this friendly bunch for 2019? We may have just the car for you... And not just one - how about this?
