The 33rd Techno-Classica Essen in Germany takes place this week and the PostWarClassic.com team went there to soak up the atmosphere and see what gems might be found among the many stands.
As always, Techno-Classica is a huge indoor show, with a wide variety of cars and exhibitors. Being in Germany, there are always many Porsches and Mercedes to be found, in every colour under the sun, but there's much more than just German cars. We saw several Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Delahayes, Chevrolets and other cars from all over the world.
We found a few personal favourites. There was an original and unrestored 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 that raced in the United States for a long time, and was quite successful if the trophies presented with it are anything to go by. It hasn’t raced in recent years though, as it appeared on display covered in dust (fresh or not, we're not sure).
Another gem was a Mercedes-Benz 190SL, and not just because the car itself was attractive but also because it came with a rather special package. The car had been bought by the current owner in southern France complete with a large wooden box containing the hardtop, which revealed the original address of the first owner - an absolutely amazing find.
