The future is sunny

Looking at cars, the question often occurs to us, what was the designer thinking? Was he really under the impression that his car was going to be a sales success and that millions of them would be sold? On seeing this 1947 Davis Divan, the same thought crossed our minds. Frank Kurtis saw a bright future when he presented his car at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles but not foreseeing its dark ending with several lawsuits in 1949.

It was a very nice looking car and, as the picture shows, very attractive in the right setting. There was no shortage of promotion, the Divan was featured in many magazines and the launch also seemed to be well-attended. This resulted in more than 300 pre-orders. Unfortunately, the Davis Motorcar Company failed to build more than 13 of the three-wheelers and, after the management got itself into trouble (staff were not paid), the dream fell to pieces and the Davis Motorcar Company was taken to court by both its employees and the car dealers who had ordered and paid for the cars. Kurtis was convicted of theft and fraud.

According to our information, all the Davis Divans made are still known.
