Thundering grounds & skies & 1 minute of silence.

Last saturday saw a brilliant and sunny meeting at airbase Gilze Rijen in Holland. The Dutch version of Wings and Wheels is an intimate meeting for both connoisseurs and fans of classic sports and race cars. Ranging from a screaming eighties Mclaren F1 back to a deep howling type 54 Bugatti, better known as the "Widow Maker". Most charming 'set' in our view was this 1951 Ferrari GP  presented  by Willem Kroon and his wife Miranda. As you can see Willem is not only a Ferrari afficionado , but also a fan of Suixtil period drivers clothing.  (see also  Suixtil.com). The car is in South American colours as it was found in Uruguay where it was left by the factory works team. Willm Kroon explains that Ferrari has the custom to use the cars one year, compete in the F2 the second year and then leave the cars behind as it was too complex and expensive to bring them back to Italy (see the car start up prior to demo). All cars had the chance to do a few demo rounds on the airbase strip. When the prewars appeared on the track they all got out their cars and held a one minute of silence to commemorate Dutch VSCC secretary Philine Heikens, who sadly lost her life earlier this year during a sprint event. In the spirit of Philine we all proceeded with having a great day after this commemorative moment.
