The oldest person in the world is currently considered to be Julia Flores Colque of Bolivia - 117 years young right now. That means she was born in 1901, just like Sir William Lyons, who would have celebrated his 117th birthday today. Lyons was of course the man behind Jaguar cars who became one of the world’s greatest Post War motoring men and car designers after having set up the marque right after WW2 and he would undoubtedly be delighted at the healthy state of his marque today.
Some ultimate Jaguar automobilia that once belonged to the great man himself made it to the market in recent years. How about Sir William Lyons' own 1961 3.8-Litre Jaguar Mk10?
Or even quite a lot cooler - his beautiful late-Victorian country house, Wappenbury Hall. This house was often famously portrayed with him and one of his cars in front of it and came on the market two years ago for just under 10 million dollars. See all of it here. We do not know who bought it then, but the previous owners told the estate agent that “The layout of the house is exactly the same as when Sir William had it, as it was in very good condition when we bought it. All we've done is upgrade some of the fittings and put in new bathroom suites.” Would the current owner be a Jaguar enthusiast? We can only assume he or she bought one of these model figures for the library...
