Imagine travelling back in time to 1950. A number of manufacturers have announced new high-performance cars for the forthcoming Motor Show. One of them, a hardcore sportscar firm, having just had a very succesful racing season, announces a new model named after a famous Italian race. The manufacturer in question is looking to meet a wider variety of requirements, so that it can broaden its customer base and find more affluent clients.

No more cycle wings, all-enveloping bodywork is the way to go. Chrome bumpers are also a first for this firm (they will also be a last as it turns out, as they won’t appear on any other of their cars but this one-off). So, what is it?
