1993 Mercedes-Benz 600 SL | Global Icons: The Patina Collective
Chassis No. WDBFA76E5PF077116
For nearly four decades, the Mercedes-Benz SL had represented the marque's unique interpretation of the high-performance grand touring roadster, but the arrival of the 600 SL in 1993 elevated the formula to an entirely new level. Introduced as the flagship of the R129 generation, the 600 SL combined exceptional V12 power with the refinement, comfort, and engineering sophistication expected of every Mercedes-Benz. Beneath its sleek, aerodynamic bodywork was a 6.0-liter, 48-valve V12 producing 389 horsepower, delivering effortless acceleration and remarkable smoothness.
Advanced technology, including Adaptive Damping Suspension (ADS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Automatic Slip Control (ASR), worked together to provide confidence-inspiring handling and stability. Equally impressive was the cabin, which blended sporting character with luxury appointments more commonly associated with the company's flagship sedans.
This U.S.-market 600 SL is finished in its original colors of non-metallic Black over a Palomino leather interior. Its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report reveals Florida ownership from new and, while in the Sunshine State, the service book records the V12 Mercedes was serviced at RENNtech multiple times. It was acquired by its third owner in Mississippi in 2011 with approximately 38,000 miles. In 2016, it returned to Florida with service records on file recording a comprehensive $14,000 service at Mercedes-Benz of Delray in 2020 that included a new battery, engine mounts, fuel filter, spark plugs, a transmission and rear differential service, new brake discs, pads, and fluid flush, along with two new tires.
At some point, this attractive example was desirably upgraded with silver 17-inch AMG Aero III multi-piece wheels by OZ Racing, an AMG body kit consisting of front and rear bumpers and side rocker panel skirts, and a RENNtech dual-outlet muffler. These enhancements coupled with the V12 powerplant offer an additional highlight to the Bruno Sacco styled R129. As the range-topping expression of the early-1990s SL, the 600 SL continues to offer an exceptional balance of performance, comfort, prestige, and vault-like build quality expected from this exceptional era of hand-built Mercedes-Benz.
