2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition | The Quail Auction 2026
Chassis No. W1KYJ8BAXMA041794
Since its introduction in 2006, the Mercedes-AMG Black Series designation has stood apart as the division's most uncompromising expression of performance, reserved for a select handful of models built with motorsport-derived hardware and stripped of excess in pursuit of the track. The AMG GT Black Series, unveiled as the most extreme iteration of the GT lineage, carried that mandate further than any road-going AMG before it, pairing a hand-assembled, flat-plane-crank 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the most powerful eight-cylinder engine AMG had yet produced, with aerodynamics and chassis architecture drawn directly from the AMG GT3 racing program. Output from that V8 reached 720 horsepower and represented the highest figure AMG had achieved from a series-production engine at the time. To match this power, the car's body was reworked extensively in carbon fiber to shed weight and sharpen the power-to-weight ratio accordingly. The result was a car engineered first for the circuit, yet fully sorted for the road, and one that went on to set benchmark lap times among production-based sports cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, underscoring the seriousness of its GT3-derived underpinnings.
Within that already rarefied lineage, the Project One Edition occupied a tier of its own. Conceived to commemorate the technological exchange between AMG's road car division and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team that produced the AMG ONE hypercar, the package was applied to just 40 examples worldwide, each finished in a bespoke Cirrus Silver fading to Obsidian Black gradient, accented with Petronas turquoise detailing across the exterior and cabin and finished with painted Mercedes-Benz stars, a direct visual link to the marque's grand prix cars. Even within the already limited AMG GT Black Series production run, the Project One Edition represented a fraction of total output, making it one of the scarcest specifications AMG has offered on a road-legal chassis.
Beneath the Project One livery lies the full complement of AMG GT Black Series engineering. The twin-turbocharged V8 sends power through a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission and an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential, while carbon ceramic brakes and a double wishbone suspension setup at both axles underpin the car's track-honed dynamics. Exposed carbon fiber extends to the front splitter, intake vents, and an extended fixed rear wing, all mounted to a chassis shod in 19 and 20-inch forged AMG Black Series wheels, with a wider front and rear track further sharpening the car's cornering capability over the standard GT.
The cabin continues the theme, trimmed in black Dinamica and leather with Petronas turquoise stitching and accents throughout, lending the interior the same competition-inspired character found outside. A matte carbon fiber crossbar, additional carbon fiber trim, and AMG carbon fiber door sill covers reinforce the car's motorsport character, while a digital gauge cluster, Burmester surround sound system, and Lane Tracking Package temper that focus with a measure of everyday usability.
This example, one of 40 worldwide, was sold new in Minnesota in January 2022 and has just a single registered owner from new. A recent service was carried out on 29 April 2026 at Sears Imported Autos of Hopkins, Minnesota, at 1,826 miles, encompassing recommended maintenance along with a brake fluid flush and an oil and filter change. It has covered just under 1,900 miles at the time of cataloging and remains in exceptional, near-new condition throughout.
Combining the most powerful V8 AMG had built to date with GT3-derived aerodynamics and a livery drawn from the marque's Formula One program, the AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition stands among the most exclusive and technically accomplished road cars to wear the three-pointed star in the modern era. With single-ownership history and remarkably low mileage, this example represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of just forty examples produced worldwide.
