While German tuner and coachbuilder Erich Schulz created a wide range of bespoke Mercedes-Benz conversions, including stretched limousines, six-wheel G-Class models, and one-off luxury specials, he is best remembered for his work on the Mercedes-Benz 190E. Through Schulz Tuning, he transformed the compact W201 into a platform for innovative coachbuilt designs, producing V8-powered conversions, the distinctive 190E City hatchback, and bespoke Cabriolets years before Mercedes-Benz offered similar concepts from the factory. Built in very limited numbers, these creations showcased the versatility of the 190E and secured Schulz Tuning a unique place in Mercedes-Benz history.

One such example, this striking Cabriolet began life as a Black Mercedes-Benz 190 E delivered through the Mönchengladbach branch in Germany and originally identified as chassis number WDB2010241A093979. Under the direction of Schulz Tuning, the four-door sedan was comprehensively reengineered and coachbuilt into a handsome two-door convertible. Upon completion of the conversion, the car was assigned a new number, SC201190S40016, and registered as a Schulz-Automobile rather than a Mercedes-Benz, reflecting the extent of the transformation.

Finished in dark blue metallic with a black power-folding soft top, the Cabriolet features a black leather interior tailored to accommodate the convertible top mechanism, including a narrowed rear bench seat. Front occupants are greeted by a pair of supportive König sport seats, lending a more sporting character to the elegant open-air design. Riding on desirable 15-inch Lorinser LO alloy wheels, the car presents with a purposeful stance befitting its bespoke origins.

Remaining in Germany until 2024 before joining The Patina Collective, this rare Schulz Cabriolet is offered with 162,213 kilometers, or just over 100,000 miles, recorded at the time of cataloging.
